The predecessor of China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company was China Ocean Shipping Company, established on April 27, 1961. On February 16, 1993, China Ocean Shipping Group was formed with China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company as its core enterprise. Through over 40 years of arduous entrepreneurship by several generations of COSCO people, relying on wisdom, diligence, and sincerity, carrying glory and dreams, COSCO Group has grown from a single shipping enterprise with 4 vessels and 22,600 deadweight tons at its inception into a comprehensive multinational enterprise group that today owns and operates over 600 modern merchant ships with more than 30 million deadweight tons and an annual cargo volume exceeding 200 million tons. As a global enterprise group with shipping and logistics as its core business, COSCO has nearly a thousand member units and over 70,000 employees worldwide.
