大唐太原第二热电厂地处太原市西北方向尖草坪区，座落在崛围山下、汾水河畔，距太原市中心15公里，全厂占地面积179.6万平方米，其中厂区占地面积61.5万平方米。大唐太原第二热电厂始建于1956年，是中国大唐集团公司全资企业，注册资本金5340万元，现役总装机容量110MW。其中一期1#机组( 25MW ，2001年退役)、2#机组 (25MW，2004年退役)1958年投产，兼供周边*企业生产及供热用汽；二期3#机组(5OMW，2000年退役) 1963年投产；叁期4#、5#、6#机组 (3x5OMW) 1967-1971年投产；四期7#、8#机组(2x200MW)1994年投产；五期9#机组(200MW)，于 2003年6月投产，四、五期兼供城市集中供热近1000万平方米；六期两台300MW空冷供热脱硫机组，兼供城市集中供热1000万平方米，#1机组已于2006年年底投产发电，#2机组2007年3月份投产发电。
