在1938年3月1日，三星前任会长李秉喆先生以30,000韩元在韩国大邱市成立了“三星商会”。李秉喆先生早期的主要业务是将韩国的干鱼、蔬菜、水果等出口到中国的北京及满洲里。不久之后，三星（在韩语的字面意思是“三颗星”）又拥有了自己的面粉和制糖厂，自己进行生产及销售。并*终成为三星这个现在拥有同一个名字的现代世界性公司的基础。
