Shenhua Xinjiang Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shenhua Xinjiang Company) is a holding subsidiary of Shenhua Group. Its predecessor was Xinjiang Urumqi Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xin Mining Group), which was restructured from the former state-owned key coal enterprise — Urumqi Mining Bureau. Shenhua Group registered and established the company on August 3, 2005 through capital increase and share expansion of the former Xin Mining Group. The company's main business scope includes coal production and sales, power generation, heat production and supply, machinery manufacturing and repair, cement, engineering construction, real estate development, and forestry development. The company's headquarters is located at No. 50 Wuqi Road, Dongshan District, Urumqi City, Xinjiang, China. The mine fields owned by the company are rich in coal resources with good mining conditions. The coal has the advantages of low ash, low sulfur, and high calorific value, making it high-quality power coal and chemical raw material. The Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway passes through the middle of the mining area, and National Highways 312 and 216 pass near the mining area, providing extremely convenient transportation.
The company has 26 secondary units, including 7 production mines (Weihuliang Coal Mine, Jiangou Coal Mine, Xiaohonggou Coal Mine, Dahonggou Coal Mine, Tiechanggou Coal Mine, Tunbao Coal Mine, and Kuangou Coal Mine). The production capacity has reached a level of generating 15 million tons of raw coal per year, with coal types mainly consisting of long-flame coal and weakly caking coal. The products are mainly supplied to key enterprises within the region and the Hexi Corridor of Gansu Province, as well as key central, Corps, and autonomous region power, petrochemical, metallurgical, chemical, and urban power supply enterprises. The company has established long-term and stable strategic cooperative relationships with major enterprises, thereby expanding the market space for enterprise development. There is 1 infrastructure mine (Zhundong Open-pit Mine), 3 planned mines (Laobawan Coal Mine, Songshutou Coal Mine, and Heishan Mining Area), 9 auxiliary units, and 4 managed units.
Shenhua Xinjiang Company focuses on scientific management and technological progress. Each of its mines is equipped with domestically advanced equipment, with a high degree of mechanization and technological content. Over the years, with the cordial care and strong support from the former Ministry of Coal, the autonomous region, the Coal Department, and Shenhua Group, Shenhua Xinjiang Company has fully implemented the strategy of invigorating the coal industry through science and technology, gradually carrying out a series of large-scale expansion and renovation of old mines, thereby significantly improving coal production capacity, the level of mechanization in mining and excavation, and safety technology. At present, the mechanized mining rate of the company's production mines reaches 100%, the coal resource recovery rate reaches 87.85%, and all production mines have achieved microcomputer-controlled management of safety production monitoring. The mines owned by the company have received multiple honors including National Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress, Outstanding Enterprise for Ideological and Political Work in the National Coal System, National Double Ten Excellent Coal Mine, High-Yield and High-Efficiency Mine, Advanced Unit for On-site Management in the Autonomous Region, Civilized Unit at the Autonomous Region Level, and Quality Standardized Mine.
According to Shenhua Group's Eleventh Five-Year Plan and its development strategy in Xinjiang, Shenhua Xinjiang Company has formulated and improved the overall goals of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan: by 2010, raw coal production and sales will reach 30 million tons. Through equity participation, the company will participate in regional power and railway construction, among which the planned and under-construction power installed capacity is 2.07 million kilowatts, and the planned total railway mileage is 260 kilometers. In accordance with Shenhua Group's planning requirements, the company will vigorously implement the construction of coal-to-liquid and coal chemical industries in Xinjiang, initiating the Xinjiang Heishan 3-million-ton direct coal liquefaction project and the Zhundong 3-million-ton indirect coal liquefaction project. It is planned that by 2020, the company's coal production and sales will reach 150 million tons, power installed capacity will be 4.47 million kilowatts, total railway mileage will be 306 kilometers, and coal-to-liquid and coal chemical products will reach 6 million tons.
