Shenzhen Huazhong University of Science and Technology Research Institute

Shenzhen Huazhong University of Science and Technology Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the "Research Institute") is a public institution legal entity approved by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and established in 2000 by its independent funder, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. It is located at No. 9, Yuexing Third Road, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, and is one of the first higher education institutions to settle in the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park (National University Science Park).
Since settling in Shenzhen, the Research Institute has adhered to Huazhong University of Science and Technology's educational philosophy of "education-oriented, innovation as the soul, responsibility in action," serving local economic development, introducing Huazhong University of Science and Technology's advantageous disciplines and scientific research strengths to Shenzhen, and practicing the integration of industry, academia, and research.
For more than a decade, the Research Institute's education and training have advanced steadily, elevating from general urgent talent education to high-end talent cultivation, and expanding from single-degree education to multi-level and diversified education and training. Scientific research has also shown good momentum of development. Laboratories have grown from nothing, and a number of laboratories (engineering centers) with complete disciplinary categories have been established successively, attracting some of the university's national key laboratories (engineering centers) to set up branches in Shenzhen. Laboratories (engineering centers) such as Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, Next-Generation Internet Access Systems, Coal Combustion National Key Laboratory, Information Storage Systems, Image Information Processing and Intelligent Control, and Anti-Counterfeiting Engineering Technology have already gained some influence in Shenzhen. While undertaking relevant scientific research tasks from the national and Shenzhen municipal governments, they also actively provide scientific and technological support for local enterprises to achieve transformation and upgrading.
The Research Institute has developed itself while actively serving the local economy. Thanks to the strong support of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, a building integrating high-tech R&D, talent cultivation, scientific research achievement incubation, and industrialization—the Huazhong University of Science and Technology Shenzhen Industry-University-Research Base Building—stands in the Shenzhen High-Tech Zone. It covers an area of 8,260 square meters with a total floor area of 46,000 square meters.
