为响应国家西部大开发的号召，充分利用贵州丰富的煤炭、电力等资源优势，服务全省农业生产，湖北宜化集团于2005年1月在贵州兴义注册成立贵州宜化化工有限责任公司，相继投资20余亿元对原兴化总厂进行扩能技术改造，新上2030、1815工程并整合煤矿，目前已形成50万吨合成氨、80万吨尿素、10万吨甲醇、5万吨二甲醚、100万吨煤炭的产能规模，年销售收入近23亿元。
