现隶属于南京市雨花台区公办事业单位学校，梅山一中在20世纪70年代由宝钢集团上海梅山有限公司投资兴建。校园坐落于雨花台区梅山街道，环境优美，布局合理，设施齐全。学校占地50089平方米，建筑面积32314平方米。有2幢现代化的教学大楼（包含实验市），设有多功能演示室、电子阅览室、多媒体视听教室、学生研究性学习活动室等各类专用教室。学校图书楼的建筑面积为2000平方米。建立了校园信息化网络，并宽带接入Internet。校园内有标准运动场（含足球场）1个，篮球场2个，排球场2个，还拥有16170平方米的教师办公室和1244平方米的体操房。
