Shanghai Hutchison Whampoa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is the first Sino-foreign joint venture in traditional Chinese medicine in Shanghai. It was jointly established by Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine Materials Co., Ltd. and Hutchison Whampoa (China) Co., Ltd. in August 2001, and was officially controlled by Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. in April 2025.

The company's predecessor can be traced back to Shanghai No. 1 Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmaceutical Factory, which was formed in 1958 through the merger of four century-old pharmacies: Lei Yun Shang, Hu Qing Yu, Tong Han Chun, and Cai Tong De. Based on carrying forward the century-old essence of traditional Chinese medicine in Shanghai, Hutchison Whampoa Pharmaceutical is committed to promoting the modernization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine. The core product, Shexiang Baoxin Pill, has achieved a magnificent transformation from an ancient millennium prescription to a modern large-scale traditional Chinese medicine product through modern innovative research. It has won the First Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2011 and the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2018. It has successively completed evidence-based medical research adhering to international standards, such as the MUST study and LES study, leading China's path of modernization, internationalization, and evidence-based development of traditional Chinese medicine while continuously contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to the global cardiovascular field.

Danning Tablet, as a **Class III new drug successfully developed in Shanghai, actively explores international development paths while advancing the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine. Currently, Hutchison Whampoa Pharmaceutical owns over 70 modern traditional Chinese medicine products, including Shexiang Baoxin Pill, Danning Tablet, Zhengqi Tablet, and Angong Niuhuang Pill, as well as 10 new drugs under development, including 6 Class I new drugs and 4 Class III new drugs.
