Approved by the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Britannica International School Shanghai is accommodated in a newly refurbished custom-built school. It has a capacity for 750 pupils from 2 to 18 years of age. It is situated within the high quality residential and educational area of Gubei/Hongqiao.

The unique feature of Britannica International School Shanghai is the fact that the school is British owned, British managed and has British teachers.

The Britannica curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum enhanced to meet the needs of the expatriate population. Essentially this means that in addition to the core curriculum, there is the opportunity for the pupils to study Mandarin and to learn about the Culture, History and Geography of China, and to study other modern languages. Pupils are prepared for the Cambridge University International General Certificate of Secondary Education and the International Baccalaureate Examinations leading to British and international university entrance.
