China Stem Cell Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China Stem Cell Group) is in a leading position nationwide in stem cell storage and application technology. The Group is committed to the research and promotion of stem cell technology, with business scope covering the collection, preparation, testing, storage, and clinical services of stem cells from various sources such as umbilical cord blood, peripheral blood, umbilical cord, and placenta.
China Stem Cell Group has strong technical expertise, boasting several well-known academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as scientists both domestically and internationally, and masters the most complete core technologies for stem cell collection, preparation, testing, and storage. The Group holds one National Key New Product Certificate, eight national invention patents, six municipal-level research projects or achievement transformation projects, and two Shanghai Municipal Famous Trademarks, and was awarded the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016. The Group is currently the first institution in China to master gas-phase liquid nitrogen storage technology and is the only specialized institution that uses a full-scale gas-phase liquid nitrogen system for long-term stem cell storage.
At present, under the construction and management of Shanghai Stem Cell Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Stem Cell Group, the public bank inventory of Shanghai Cord Blood Bank ranks first among all cord blood banks in China; the annual number of transplants exceeds 500 cases, also ranking first nationwide. Shanghai Cord Blood Bank was approved by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (formerly the Ministry of Health) through documents Wei Yi Fa [2001] No. 225 and [2005] No. 69, and obtained the "Blood Station Practice License of the People's Republic of China" in April 2006. It is the only special blood station in Shanghai with legal qualifications for umbilical cord blood collection, preparation, testing, cryopreservation, selection, and distribution. Currently, the success rate of matching for Chinese patients worldwide here has reached 100%. As of February 6, 2017, Shanghai Cord Blood Bank has provided 2,417 units of umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cell samples for 2,344 leukemia patients. Among the transplanted patients, those weighing over 30 kilograms accounted for 76.56%, those over 18 years old accounted for 53.76%, and the two-year survival rate after transplantation is as high as 82.8%, reaching the international advanced level.
