The 22nd Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (China Research Institute of Radio Wave Propagation) is the only professional research institute in China dedicated to the observation and study of radio wave environment characteristics, and is one of the largest such research institutions internationally. It is the sole owner of the national radio wave environment observation station network and radio wave environment data resources, and is the state-authorized agency for issuing ionospheric disturbance forecasts. The institute's headquarters is located in Xinxiang City, Henan Province, with a branch in Qingdao, and a State Key Laboratory of Radio Wave Environment Characteristics and Modeling Technology in Beijing. It maintains permanent radio wave environment observation stations in 18 cities including Beijing, Manzhouli, Chongqing, and Guangzhou, as well as in six countries and regions including the North and South Poles, forming the country's most comprehensive radio wave environment observation and research network. The 22nd Institute is a comprehensive research institute focused on the propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves in various media and their applications, with research fields ranging from underground to high-altitude atmosphere, and frequencies from ultra-long waves to millimeter waves. Its research results are directly applied in radar, communications, navigation, measurement and control, remote sensing, aerospace, spectrum management, radio and television, radio interference coordination, and petroleum logging. Over the years, the institute has strived to enhance China's research capabilities and levels in radio wave environment characteristics, accelerate the transformation of radio wave environment technology achievements, actively provide technical support and service guarantees for national informatization construction, and has participated in and undertaken over 200 national key engineering tasks, including the 'Two Bombs, One Satellite' project, Antarctic communication and scientific research, and the manned space program. It has developed three pillar industries (radio wave technology, antenna technology, and petroleum electronics) and hundreds of products, and has exceeded its annual economic responsibility targets with the group company for consecutive years.
