武汉港口机械质量监督检验测试中心（原交通部港口机械质量监督检验测试中心）、武汉理工大学港口机械检测实验室分别于1985年、2002年由交通部、全国工业产品生产许可证办公室和武汉理工大学批准成立。质检中心1991年通过国家计量认证，2002年实验室通过中国实验室国家认可委员会认可评审。通过认证/认可的检测产品有18项。质检中心、实验室承担的任务以交通行业为重点，面向全国港口、工厂、企业、科研设计单位，对有关其中运输及港口机械等产品提供检测服务。
