2002年12月，教育部门批准"中央电大远程教育公共服务体系建设试点"项目正式启动，并由中央广播电视大学和电大在线远程教育技术有限公司共同组建"奥鹏远程教育中心"（简称"奥鹏教育中心"）。2005年4月，教育部门正式同意建设"现代远程教育公共服务体系"，公共服务体系正式进入全面运行阶段。
深圳西乡成校奥鹏中心是经中央电大批准，教育部备案的合法远程教育学习中心，目前与华南理工大学、兰州大学、大连理工大学、中国石油大学（华东）、南开大学、北京语言大学等高校合作，开展高升专、高升本、专升本层次学历教育。
