Changsha Ecological Zoo opened to the public in October 2010. The new zoo is located in the central area where the three cities of Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Xiangtan merge, adjacent to Furong South Road and the Changsha Ring Expressway, and close to the Zoo Station of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Intercity Railway. It directly serves a resident population of 30 million and receives an average of 1 million domestic and international tourists per year. It is the best short-term tourist destination for the people of Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Xiangtan, and the largest urban ecological wildlife park in the five provinces of Central and South China. The park has green mountains and clear waters, with birds singing and flowers fragrant. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the National Tourism Administration, the State Forestry Administration, and the National Endangered Species Office have conducted multiple on-site inspections and highly praised the park's ecological environment, construction concepts, and breeding standards. The park is currently a National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction, a National Science Popularization Education Base, a Five-Star Park of Changsha City, and one of the Top Ten Tourist Attractions (Sites) of Changsha City.
