About the Company

[Summary] Creating Tomorrow

Wharf Holdings Limited was founded in 1886. The Group is strong, with total consolidated assets of HK$439.8 billion. Leveraging the philosophy of "Creating Tomorrow" and excellent execution, the Group has achieved steady and efficient business performance over the years. Wharf was one of the seven constituent stocks of the Hang Seng Index at its inception 50 years ago, and remains one of the most actively traded and widely held local blue-chip stocks. Over the past 10 years, earnings per share have doubled, and dividend per share has increased by 138%, with a compound annual growth rate of 9%.
Wharf focuses strategically on property development and is renowned for its capabilities in land acquisition, project development, and marketing. The Group's outstanding shopping mall development and retail management lead its peers. Its Wharf Hotels business includes newly developed hotel projects, Modern Terminals holds a highly valuable port, and the Group also has media and entertainment businesses.
The Group's investment property portfolio in Hong Kong and mainland China continues to grow and has become a major growth driver. As of June 30, 2016, the book value of the investment property portfolio was HK$318.6 billion, accounting for 78% of the Group's core profit.
Harbour City and Times Square in Hong Kong are flagship projects of the investment property portfolio. The former is a globally renowned landmark, a place for retail merchants to showcase their brands, and a shopping paradise in the international exhibition area. The latter, with its unique 17-level design and carefully curated tenant mix, has become one of the world's most successful vertical malls.
The Group's investment property portfolio also covers The Peak, the core central business district, and the second core business district in Kowloon East.
The Peak in Hong Kong is an exclusive and rare luxury residential area. The Group's Peak property portfolio includes a range of exclusive luxury homes.
In recent years, the Group has acquired properties in Central, including the landmark Murray Building (currently being converted into a unique urban lifestyle hotel) purchased in 2013, the Carver Building on Queen's Road Central acquired in 2014, and the Wheelock House office and prime retail units on Pedder Street acquired after 2015.
As the Group develops the "Kowloon East Waterfront Property Portfolio," the substantial potential of Kowloon East will be unlocked. This portfolio, situated in the vibrant second core business district, includes Kowloon Godown, Wharf T&T Square, and One Bay East from parent company Wheelock, stretching along a 500-meter waterfront with stunning views of Victoria Harbour.
Wharf's "Creating Tomorrow" philosophy also extends to "Caring for the Community." Besides the flagship school project "Project WeCan," the Group's "Wharf Hong Kong Secondary School Painting Competition" and "Architectural Design Internship Programme" have also gained attention in recent years. Supported by over 1,000 corporate volunteers, the Group has launched a series of community care initiatives benefiting people from all walks of life. The Group has also been selected as a constituent stock of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index, which covers the top 30 sustainable enterprises in Hong Kong, highlighting its outstanding performance in corporate social responsibility.
Mainland investment properties, along with five International Finance Centers, are beginning to yield fruitful results. Among them, Chengdu IFS Phase I opened in early 2014, Wuxi IFC was launched at the end of 2014, Chongqing IFC is planned to open in 2017, and Changsha IFS and Suzhou IFC will also be completed subsequently. Among these, Chengdu IFS and Changsha IFS are comparable in scale and significance to Harbour City and are set to become local landmarks. Times Outlets is another development strategy of the Group; the project in Chengdu has established a solid foundation, and the one in Changsha has already opened.
For mainland development properties, the Group currently has a land bank of 7.5 million square meters across 15 cities. The Group will continue to adopt a prudent approach to land acquisition, focusing on first-tier and quality second-tier cities.
Wharf Hotels currently operates 14 hotels in the Asia-Pacific region, six of which are owned by the Group. The Group is actively developing multiple hotel projects to expand Marco Polo's hotel portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region. The Group's new luxury brand, Niccolo, offers a series of elegant urban lifestyle hotels, with the first Niccolo hotel having opened at Chengdu IFS in April 2015. The Murray Building in Central, Hong Kong, is currently being converted into a unique urban lifestyle hotel, expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2017.
