In 2005, several young media professionals including Xu Zhiyuan, Yu Wei, and Zhang Fan founded the "One-Way Street Library" in a courtyard in Yuanmingyuan, named after the eponymous work "One-Way Street" by German thinker Walter Benjamin. Since then, this bookstore has become a frequent destination for writers, directors, artists, and young people from all walks of life.
In 2014, the "One-Way Street Library" was renamed "One-Way Space". This public space, providing intellectual, ideological, and cultural life, is composed of Dan Tan (salon brand), Dan Du (publications), Dan Chu (catering brand), and Dan Xuan (original design brand).
We aim to produce refined and original vertical content products, including online media, book publications, videos, audio, salon events, and public welfare projects, building a comprehensive reading field from auditory, visual, tactile, to gustatory senses, and creating a high-quality cultural community that does not succumb to the consumer era.

OWSPACE is a cultural and creative brand under One-Way Space. We regard objects as an extension and outlet of personal spiritual world, hoping to create an intellectual attitude towards life through original aesthetic artifacts.
In 2018, One-Way Space expanded beyond Beijing, opening two physical spaces in Aranya Community in Beidaihe and Yuanyang Ledi Port in Hangzhou. This is not just a bookstore, but a utopia created by idealists. Here, you can escape the confines of daily life, illuminate your spirit, and meet like-minded individuals in thought.
As one of China's most influential independent bookstores, One-Way Space has participated in creating the cultural memory of a generation, centering on reading and thinking, insisting on publishing, and hosting thousands of cultural salons free to the public, becoming the most important gathering place of humanistic spirit in the Chinese-speaking world. At the beginning of 2019, One-Way Space moved from Huajiadi to Dongfeng Art District, starting its new journey. Here, not only is the space open, but the air is fresh and the environment is quiet, making people feel warm and comfortable.
