Founded on January 1, 1987, Gome Electrical Appliances Co., Ltd. has developed into the largest household appliance retail chain enterprise in China. It has established 40 branches in 250 cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, with over 800 directly-operated stores and more than 100,000 employees. Its annual sales capacity exceeds 80 billion yuan, making it the largest distributor for many well-known domestic and foreign household appliance manufacturers in China.

In 2003 and 2006, Gome opened stores in Hong Kong and Macau respectively. Currently, it operates 14 stores in these two regions, marking the first step in the internationalization of China's household appliance chain retail enterprises. In 2004, Gome was successfully listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange. In 2005, Gome accelerated its industry merger and acquisition pace, successfully acquiring four household appliance brands and their complete chain networks—Heixiongdian Electrical Appliances in Harbin, Yihaijia Commercial Chain Company in Shenzhen, Wuhan Zhongshang, and Jiangsu Golden Sun—within 8 months, demonstrating unstoppable development momentum. In 2006, according to the 2005 Top 30 Chinese Commercial Chain Enterprises announced by the Ministry of Commerce, Gome ranked first among China's household appliance chain enterprises for five consecutive years with sales of 49.84 billion yuan, solidifying its dominant position as the leader in household appliance chains.

In January 2007, Gome officially completed its merger with Yongle Electrical Appliances, the third-largest electrical appliance retail enterprise in China, becoming a national retail enterprise with international competitiveness.

Gome Electrical Appliances Group is one of the top 500 Chinese enterprises and was awarded the "Special Contribution Award for CCTV's Most Beloved Chinese Brands" by China Central Television. In the "China's 500 Most Valuable Brands" list issued by the World Brand Laboratory (WBL), Gome was recognized as one of China's most valuable household appliance retailers with a brand value of 30.125 billion yuan.
