The company was formerly known as Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd., and was established in 1986 upon the approval of Document Yu Fu Fa [1986] No. 288 issued by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. The original registered capital was 63.38 million yuan, including 43.38 million yuan of state-owned shares and 20 million yuan of public shares. On February 8, 1996, upon approval by the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the company's 20 million circulating shares were officially listed and traded on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
In March 2016, the company name was changed from "Chongqing Tongjunge Co., Ltd." to "CECEP Solar Energy Co., Ltd.", and its English name was changed from "ChongqingTongJunGeCo.,ltd." to "CECEPSolarEnergyCo.,Ltd.".
