广东医科大学的前身是创建于1958年的中山医学院湛江分院，现有湛江和东莞2个校区，是一所以医为主，多学科协调发展的广东省高水平大学重点学科建设高校。学校有博士学位授权一级学科、博士后科研流动站、博士后科研工作站；有ESI全球排名前1%学科7个，其中临床医学进入全球排名前3‰；拥有一支以双聘院士、*人才、国家杰出青年科学基金项目获得者、国家优秀青年科学基金项目获得者、全国模范教师、全国优秀教师等为代表的优秀教师队伍。学校拥有广东省重点实验室、工程技术研究中心和新型研发机构11个。学校现有直属附属医院及附属医院集团医院9所，国家临床重点专科7个。办学68年以来，学校为国家和地方共培养输送了20万余名医学人才。
