At present, there are about 26 million heart failure patients worldwide, seriously endangering human health. Among them, there are about 13 million heart failure patients in China, with severe heart failure patients accounting for 5%, about 600,000 to 700,000 people, and the in-hospital mortality rate reaching more than 70%. For patients with severe heart failure, heart transplantation is currently the best treatment method, but due to a severe shortage of donors, China performs only about 400 heart transplant surgeries each year, far from meeting patients' treatment needs. Since the 1950s, countries such as Europe, the United States, and Japan have invested huge amounts of money to support the development and research of cardiac assist systems, known as the "jewel in the crown of medical devices," and have now entered a stage of technological maturity. China, limited by many factors such as R&D capability, materials science, precision machining, and management level, has developed slowly in the field of ventricular assist systems, remaining at the clinical research stage, with no products manufactured or marketed. Although foreign products are technologically mature and have good clinical results, they are expensive and have not entered the Chinese market. Chinese patients with severe heart failure have almost no other treatment options, and many patients can only die while waiting. It is urgent to bring to market localized ventricular assist system products with internationally cutting-edge levels and reasonably economical prices as soon as possible.
