Shanghai Cable Research Institute was founded in 1957 and is a nationally leading research institution integrating wire and cable development, testing and inspection, information services, and engineering design. In 1999, it was restructured into a technology-based enterprise. It currently has nearly 400 employees, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and over 80 professors and senior engineers. Its main research work covers all specialties in the industry. It possesses a strong technology development center, an information and exhibition center, a national Class A engineering design research institute, a national wire and cable testing center, and two authoritative national and industry inspection agencies: the Mechanical Industry Electrical Material and Special Cable Quality Inspection Center. It is the leading unit for the Wire and Cable Technical Committee (TC) and its sub-committees (SC) of the Chinese National Committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
