China Judicial Big Data Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "China Legal Research") was established under the background of the "National Big Data Strategy" proposed at the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee. It was decided by the Party Group of the Supreme People's Court to be a modern enterprise-style research institution, led and actually controlled by the Information Technology Service Center of the Supreme People's Court, with China Electronics Technology Group Corporation as the main investor and responsible for operation. It currently has about 400 employees and consists of four business segments: political and legal affairs, government and enterprise affairs, military and government affairs, and innovation and research. It is also responsible for operating the Smart Court Key Laboratory of the Supreme People's Court, the China Judicial Big Data Service Network, the People's Court Financial Judicial Research Center, and the Internet Judicial Research Center and other specialized research institutions. It is the overall unit for the top-level design and integration of the informatization of the Supreme People's Court.
