CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. is a core subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited and the leading enterprise of Hunan's 100-billion-yuan rail transit industry cluster. Founded in 1936, the company has maintained rapid and healthy development since the founding of New China, setting numerous records in China's rail transit equipment sector and earning the reputation as the 'Capital of Electric Locomotives in China'. Currently, it has 24 subsidiaries both domestically and internationally, with over 14,000 employees worldwide. The company boasts the world's largest electric locomotive production capacity and R&D and manufacturing capabilities for urban transit equipment aligned with European standards. It has established the most complete product portfolio in China's industry, with the widest variety, and is committed to providing customers with full-lifecycle maintenance services, overhaul services, electromechanical general contracting, PHM (Prognostics and Health Management), key components, and other system solutions.
II. R&D Strength
The company possesses a nationally recognized enterprise technology center (accredited by the National Development and Reform Commission) and has built three national firsts in the industry's innovation platforms: the State Key Laboratory of High-Power AC Drive Electric Locomotive System Integration (accredited by the Ministry of Science and Technology), the National Engineering Laboratory for Rail Transit Equipment System Integration (accredited by the National Development and Reform Commission), and the Rail Transit Equipment Industrial Design Center (accredited by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology). It hosts a post-doctoral research station represented by Academician Liu Youmei and an academician workstation represented by Academician Wu Cheng of Tsinghua University. The company has formed a domestic leading and most authoritative R&D team headed by Liu Youmei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who have mastered cutting-edge technologies including system integration, AC drive, heavy-haul transport, maglev, vehicle energy storage, articulated light rail vehicles, high-speed pantographs, and supercapacitors, keeping the company at the forefront of the rail transit equipment industry.
The company adheres to innovation-driven development, with over 25% of employees engaged in R&D, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 13 industry experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council. Led by Academician Liu Youmei, a team of chief experts, senior experts, and key researchers has guided the company to become a technology and innovation leader in the rail transit equipment industry.
III. International Development
As a pioneer in the 'going global' initiative for Chinese equipment, since achieving a 'zero breakthrough' in exporting complete electric locomotives in 1997, the company has secured orders for over 70 projects in 25 countries and regions including Singapore, Turkey, India, Malaysia, the Czech Republic, North Macedonia, Serbia, Germany, Austria, Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and South Korea. Products include locomotives, metros, EMUs, and engineering maintenance vehicles, with a cumulative value of approximately RMB 78 billion. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, total orders have amounted to about RMB 65 billion. The company has established subsidiaries in Malaysia, Turkey, India, Austria, Mexico, and other countries. In 2020, it acquired 100% equity of Vossloh Locomotives GmbH, marking the establishment of a complete vehicle manufacturing base in Europe by a Chinese enterprise. During Premier Li Keqiang's inspection, he commented that the company's products are a masterpiece of Chinese equipment 'going global'.
