Chongqing University Architectural Planning and Design Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CQU Design Institute) was founded in 1958 and is one of the earliest Class-A architectural design research institutes established in domestic universities. Its predecessor was the Architectural Design Research Institute of Chongqing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture. In 2014, it was restructured into a wholly state-owned enterprise, and in 2017, it was integrated with the Planning Institute of Chongqing University to establish CQU Design Institute. As a national high-tech enterprise, CQU Design Institute is an important "Double First-Class" construction service platform of Chongqing University.
CQU Design Institute holds Class-A qualifications in the building industry (building engineering), Class-A qualifications for urban and rural planning formulation, Class-A professional qualifications in the municipal industry (water supply engineering, drainage engineering, road engineering, bridge engineering, environmental sanitation engineering), Class-A qualifications in engineering survey professional category (geotechnical engineering), Class-A special qualifications for landscape architecture engineering design, Class-A credit qualifications for engineering consulting units in building and municipal public engineering, Class-B qualifications for cultural relic protection engineering survey and design, Class-B professional qualifications in the municipal industry (urban gas engineering), Class-B professional qualifications in the electric power industry (new energy power generation), Class-B professional qualifications in the electric power industry (power transmission engineering), Class-B professional qualifications in the electric power industry (substation engineering), pressure pipeline design qualifications (GB1 level, GC2 level), Class-B design qualifications for geological disaster prevention and control units, Class-B land planning qualifications, Class-B surveying and mapping qualifications, Grade II general contracting for building engineering construction, Grade II professional contracting for building decoration and renovation engineering, Grade II professional contracting for building mechanical and electrical installation engineering, Grade I professional contracting for fire protection facilities engineering, Grade II professional contracting for steel structure engineering, and other qualifications. It has also obtained the title of national high-tech enterprise, safety production license certificate, "Three Systems" certification certificates (ISO9001 quality management system, ISO14001 environmental management system, ISO45001 occupational health and safety management system), etc. It has formed distinctive characteristics mainly in medical and healthcare architectural design, green and smart campus architectural planning and design, performance and exhibition architectural design, mountainous urban and rural planning and design, residential architectural design, ancient building protection, landscape architecture design, municipal engineering design, new energy power design, etc., as well as a "one-stop" comprehensive service model with consulting as the guide, building, municipal, landscape and other design as the focus, planning as the lead, and engineering general contracting as the main mode.
To support Chongqing University's "Double First-Class" construction, CQU Design Institute has made major decisions on deepening reform and innovating business models around the overall strategy of high-quality leapfrog development. Through resource integration and deep cultivation of the national market, it has basically completed its national market operation layout. At present, CQU Design Institute has 3 academician and master studios, 21 directly managed branches, more than ten subsidiaries, and more than 1,300 employees, including 7 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese contemporary top 100 architects, and Chongqing survey and design masters. Through more than 60 years of journey and exploration, CQU Design Institute has won good social reputation and praise. It has won more than 300 national, provincial, and municipal excellent survey and design, planning and design awards. It has strong scientific research strength, has participated in the compilation of more than 50 national, industry, and local standards and guidelines, owns more than 20 invention patents, published more than 300 academic papers, and has won many honorary titles such as "National Excellent Survey and Design Enterprise", "Top 100 Contemporary Chinese Architectural Design Institutes", "Excellent Brand Service Enterprise", and "National Architectural Design Industry Integrity Unit".
