Nanchang Pepsi-Cola Company was founded in 1988 as a special enterprise through cooperation and joint venture between PepsiCo and a social welfare enterprise for employing people with disabilities (Nanchang No. 3 Food Factory). It is a foreign-invested enterprise in PepsiCo China that was approved in 1989 with personal instructions from national leaders and with the approval of the General Office of the State Council, the former State Planning Commission, the Ministry of Light Industry, and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade. It is a foreign-invested enterprise established in November 1988 by the Jiangxi Provincial Government and Nanchang Municipal Government specifically to solve employment for people with disabilities, descendants of old Red Army soldiers, and veteran employees. It is a company with a high sense of social responsibility.
To support the rapid development of PepsiCo's business in Jiangxi, Nanchang Pepsi began preparations for a new factory in Xiaolan Economic Development Zone in 2008 and officially began production at the end of 2009. The company also changed from a cooperative enterprise to a joint venture and was officially renamed PepsiCo Beverages (Nanchang) Co., Ltd.
PepsiCo Beverages (Nanchang) Co., Ltd. has a registered capital of USD 9 million and fixed asset investment of more than RMB 130 million. At present, the company has more than 600 employees. Its main products include Pepsi, 7Up, Mirinda, Gatorade, Fruit Blend, and Pure Water, mainly supplied to the Jiangxi market.
In 2010, Nanchang Pepsi's new plant received the Gold certification of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) award issued by the U.S. Green Building Council. It is one of the food and beverage plants in Asia to be granted this certification level, setting a new benchmark for sustainable development practices in China's beverage industry.
