Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd. was restructured and established on December 18, 2000. Its predecessor, Southwest Aluminum Processing Plant, was prepared in the 1950s and began construction in the 1960s. It is now directly under Aluminum Corporation of China. After more than 40 years of construction, Southwest Aluminum has developed into a comprehensive extra-large aluminum processing enterprise with the largest production scale, the most advanced technical equipment, and the most complete varieties and specifications in China. It is China's high-precision and advanced aluminum materials R&D and production base, China's aerospace and materials R&D support base, and China's export aluminum materials processing base. Southwest Aluminum gathers China's most advanced technical equipment in the aluminum processing industry, and possesses internationally advanced high-precision aluminum and aluminum alloy plate, strip, and sheet hot continuous rolling production lines, a 30,000-ton die forging hydraulic press, a 12,500-ton horizontal extrusion press, 2,800 mm hot rolling mill and cold rolling mill, 1,850 mm extra-thin sheet rolling mill, 1,700 mm aluminum foil rolling mill, 8,000-ton horizontal extrusion press, pre-stretched plate production line, 1,600 mm color coating line, and architectural profiles and surface oxidation spraying production lines. Its main products include aluminum and aluminum alloy plates, strips, foils, tubes, rods, profiles, die forgings, free forgings, die castings, aluminum welded tubes, aluminum-lithium alloys, high-temperature alloys, color-coated aluminum plates, and other products. It has formed six major series of pillar products, including aluminum materials for aerospace, transportation, packaging, electronics and home appliances, printing, and architectural decoration. Southwest Aluminum has a nationally recognized R&D institution—the Technology Center, which has an expert committee, an aluminum alloy processing research institute, eight specialized research laboratories, and an aluminum-lithium alloy development production line, engaged in short-, medium-, and long-term new product and new technology R&D. Southwest Aluminum has abundant human resources, with 2,190 professional and technical personnel, accounting for 24.6% of the total number of employees, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 22 recipients of special state allowances, 1 Liangjiang Scholar, 18 professor-level senior engineers, 129 senior engineers, and 42 senior management experts. Those with intermediate or higher professional titles account for 55%, and those with bachelor's degrees or above account for 48%.
