Chongqing Fourth People's Hospital

Chongqing Emergency Medical Center (Chongqing Fourth People's Hospital, Central Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing University) was founded in 1939. Its predecessor was Chongqing Municipal Zhongzheng Hospital. In 1950, the hospital was renamed Chongqing People's Hospital. In 1954, it was renamed Chongqing * Workers' Hospital. In 1984, it was renamed Chongqing Fourth People's Hospital. In March 1988, it was renamed Chongqing Emergency Medical Center. In 1995, it was approved as a national Class III Grade A general hospital. In 2003, Chongqing Institute of Emergency Medicine was established. In October 2017, it became the Central Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing University. At present, the hospital operates under one management team with three names, and is a national Class III Grade A general hospital integrating emergency care, medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, and prevention. The hospital has 1,200 authorized beds and more than 1,900 employees. The new campus is located in Western Science City, with 1,500 authorized beds (1,000 in Phase I and 500 in Phase II), and is expected to be completed and put into use in 2025. In the 2022 performance assessment of Class III public hospitals, its CMI value (reflecting the technical difficulty of medical services) ranked 207th nationwide and 4th in Chongqing.
