厦门市第三中学创办于1924年，至今已有九十五年的历史。原名为厦门禾山中学，学校的前身可以追溯到在厦门颇有名气的禾山甲种商业学校、禾山书院、安睦书院。1953年1月，厦门市人民政府为学校授名为“厦门市第三中学”。“英雄小八路”在我校成长，我校有光荣的革命传统，“中国少年先锋队队歌”——《我们是共产主义接班人》从这里传遍全国。1962年2月，学校的校名由郭沫若先生题写。几十年来，学校不断探索符合校情、学情的治学道路，大胆探索和实践科技特色教育，扎实有效地推进素质教育和课程改革，取得了骄人的业绩。2015年3月，被省教育厅确认为“省一级达标高中”。如今的厦门市第三中学已发展成为湖里区规模*大、设备一流、师资力量雄厚的学校。
