Wuhan Civil Architectural Design & Research Institute was founded in 1952, at the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It was one of the earliest Class A architectural design institutes approved by the competent construction authorities. Its early main business was civil architectural design, represented by public housing, and providing technical support services for state-owned real estate departments. Since the reform and opening up, the institute has followed the tide of the times, seized opportunities, forged ahead, continuously explored new development mechanisms, and expanded into new business areas. It has formed a multi-directional and mutually interactive business pattern including planning and architectural design, protection of outstanding historic buildings, cultural relic protection design, old city renovation and facade improvement, strengthening and renovation design, engineering consulting, and project management. Among these, the protection of outstanding historic buildings, old city renovation and facade improvement, etc., have become advantageous brands in the design field in the Wuhan area. In 2003, the institute passed the ISO9001:2008 quality system certification.
