中国铁通集团有限公司(简称"中国铁通")的前身是铁道通信信息有限责任公司，成立于2000年12月20日，共有省级分公司31个，地市分公司321个，员工4.7万人，系国有大型基础电信运营企业。2004年1月20日，经国务院批准，由铁道部移交国资委管理，更名为"中国铁通集团有限公司"，2008年5月23日，中国铁通集团有限公司正式并入中国移动通信集团公司，成为其全资子公司，保持相对独立运营。2009年12月15日，铁通公司将铁路通信业务、人员移交铁道部。铁路通信专网剥离后，铁通公司继续作为中国移动通信集团公司的全资子公司，从事公众通信业务。2015年11月27日消息，中国移动宣布其子公司中移铁通有限公司以319亿元向母公司中国移动通信集团公司收购中国铁通的目标资产和业务。
