Shanghai DuPont Agricultural Chemicals Co., Ltd. was established on April 30, 1990, just 12 days after the Chinese government announced the development and opening of Pudong New Area. It is the first large-scale joint venture in China's agrochemical industry and the first investment by a Fortune 500 multinational company in China. With a total investment of USD 25.8 million and covering an area of 12 hectares, the company uses DuPont's high-tech to produce sulfonylurea herbicides that are highly efficient, high value-added, safe, and low-toxicity. Besides introducing advanced technology and products, the company also brought in modern management mechanisms and business concepts, making it a hallmark of successful joint ventures in Pudong.
On August 5, 2010, Shanghai DuPont Agricultural Chemicals Co., Ltd. established a plant in Jinshan, primarily producing chlorantraniliprole insecticide. This product overturned the concept that "insecticides are toxic," earning DuPont admiration and respect as a leading company in the insecticide field.
