Shanghai New Power Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. (formerly known as Shanghai Diesel Engine Co., Ltd., Shanghai Diesel Engine Factory, Shanghai Wusong Machinery Factory, etc.), founded in 1947, is now affiliated with SAIC Motor. In 1993, it was restructured into a state-controlled company issuing A and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
In 2021, the company implemented a major asset restructuring, achieving a new pattern of integrated development of the two industrial sectors of "heavy-duty trucks and diesel engines." The heavy-duty truck business will leverage its wholly-owned subsidiary SAIC Hongyan Automobile Co., Ltd. as a platform, actively deploying intelligent heavy-duty trucks and new energy heavy-duty trucks, aiming to become a leading enterprise in the commercial vehicle heavy-duty truck sector. Through innovations in new energy, intelligent driving, and intelligent connected technologies, it will establish leadership in intelligent and new energy heavy-duty trucks. The diesel engine business will continue its position as a leading domestic independent supplier across the full range and multiple fields, continuously expanding product portfolios, exploring new market segments, and further enhancing its differentiated competitive advantages in new energy and intelligent connectivity, providing reliable technical products to domestic and international customers in commercial vehicles, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, marine, and generator sets.
The company has a nationally certified enterprise technology center and a postdoctoral workstation, boasting passenger car-standard quality management systems and advanced automated and digital production lines, vigorously promoting the construction of intelligent factories.
