Beijing Graphene Institute (BGI), supported by the Beijing Municipal Government, is a new-type research institution jointly initiated by Peking University and leading industrial enterprises such as China National Building Material Group and China Baoan Group on October 25, 2016, focusing on core technology R&D in the graphene industry, high-end R&D contracting services, and incubation and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Concurrently, BGI Technology Co., Ltd. was established as the vehicle for achievement transformation and industrialization promotion of Beijing Graphene Institute. As a pilot unit of new-type research institutions under Beijing National Science and Technology Innovation Center, BGI implements a director-general responsibility system under the leadership of the board of directors. The first director-general is Professor Liu Zhongfan, an international expert in nano-carbon materials and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Konstantin Novoselov, a Nobel laureate from the University of Manchester, has been invited as honorary director.
