武汉体育学院原名中南体育学院，是新中国成立后首批独立设置的全日制普通高等体育院校之一，1953年成立于江西省南昌市，1955年迁至湖北省武汉市，1956年更名为武汉体育学院，为国家体育总局直属院校，2001年调整为国家体育总局与湖北省人民政府共建。现有东湖（卓刀泉）校区、藏龙岛校区、东湖高新区（豹澥）和武当山校区，占地面积1820亩，本科生、硕博生、留学生15000余人。举办一所全日制本科独立学院——武汉体育学院体育科技学院。拥有一所三甲直属附属医院、一所三甲附属医院。学校秉承“公勇诚毅，学思辨行”校训，坚持“融体育、科技、人文教育为一体，集道德、文化、专业素质于一身”的办学理念，办学70余年来，为国家培养输送了16万余名优秀人才。
