The Western Pet Life Science Research Institute was established in October 2021, jointly initiated by Dog Internet, Sichuan Agricultural University, and Yichong Technology. It was approved by the Chongqing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau and the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology. It is currently the first NGO in China dedicated to professional research in pet life sciences.
The Western Pet Life Science Research Institute focuses on life science research of companion animals, dogs and cats, providing scientific research support for the development of the industry chain, facilitating industry development, and driving the economic development and upgrading of related industries. It aims to build a global pet life science research platform, extensively attracting domestic and international research talents in the field of pet life sciences, as well as the latest research achievements; on the basis of independence and self-reliance, it develops a leading core scientific research and technology system through open cooperation.
The Western Pet Life Science Research Institute currently has 18 Ph.D. holders engaged in research directions such as genetic technology research, epidemic prevention and control and biosafety research, local dog and cat genetic breeding and resource protection and utilization research, clinical medical research, food and research, artificial intelligence research, big data application research, and industry research. It has obtained two national invention patents, seven utility model patents, and six software copyrights. Products that have been launched and applied include AI dog nose print + dog face recognition algorithms, dog biosafety management platforms, dog behavior safety management platforms, pet electronic fence management systems, microwave base stations, microwave dog tags, RFID electronic collars, intelligent mobile law enforcement terminals, etc.
The Western Pet Life Science Research Institute has 11 centers under it, including the Genetic Technology Research Center, Human-Pet Relationship Research Center, Industry Research Center, Food and Nutrition Research Center, AI and Smart Wearable Device Research Center, AI Digital Breeding Research Center, China Local Dog and Cat Protection and Utilization Research Center, Government Urban and Rural Pet Smart Management Research Center, Epidemic Prevention and Control and Biosafety Research Center, and Full Life Cycle Health Management Research Center.
