Chongqing Qianjiang Wulingshan Airport (formerly Chongqing Qianjiang Zhoubai Airport), located in Zhoubai Subdistrict, Qianjiang District, Chongqing, 3 kilometers from Qianjiang urban area, is the * civil airport in the southeastern Chongqing region, an important component of Chongqing's existing "one large and two small" airport architecture, and was positioned by the 2009 State Council Document No. 3 and the 2010 Municipal Party Committee Document No. 36 as an "important aviation gateway and tourism transit port in the Wulingshan region."
Qianjiang Wulingshan Airport was approved for project initiation in 1993, feasibility study approved in 2003, investment estimate approved in 2004, officially commenced construction in 2005, and officially opened for navigation and operation on November 22, 2010. It currently operates 6 routes to Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Chongqing. Passenger throughput is expected to reach 140,000 in 2015 and 200,000 in 2020.
