公司是经国家经贸委国经贸企改[1999]720号文批准,由原哈尔滨飞机工业集团有限责任公司现已更名为“哈尔滨航空工业集团有限公司”作为主发起人,联合中国飞龙专业航空公司、哈尔滨双龙航空工程有限公司、中国航空工业供销总公司、中国航空技术进出口哈尔滨公司等四家企业以现金出资,共同发起设立的股份有限公司。
经中国证券监督管理委员会证监发行字151号文核准,于2000年11月22日利用上海证券交易所交易系统,采用上网定价的方式向社会公开发行人民币普通股股票6,000万股,并于同年12月18日在上海证券交易所正式挂牌交易,股票代码600038。
2014年12月24日,公司名称由“哈飞航空工业股份有限公司”变更为“中航直升机股份有限公司”,英文名称由“HafeiAviationIndustryCo.,Ltd.”变更为“AvicopterPlc”。
