中国第四冶金建设公司始建于1365年，当时冶金工业部抽调参加过鞍钢，首钢、包钢、北满钢厂的几支冶炼基建队伍，在兰州组成中国冶金工业部第十建设公司，1983年划归中国有色金属工业总公司，更名为中国有色金属工业第四建设公司。1996年国家经贸委批准建设部核准回归冶金工业部，启用中国第四冶金建设公司名称。中国四冶有四个土建公司、两个安装公司、路桥施工工程公司及十余个二级公司组成，同时还设置了设备公司，物资公司、建设研究所、测绘大队及计算机站等专业性二级单位。
