Sinosteel Wuhan Safety & Environmental Protection Research Institute (abbreviated as "Sinosteel Safety & Environmental Protection Institute") was founded in 1959. It is a high-tech enterprise with outstanding comprehensive strength that was among the earliest in the metallurgical industry to engage in research and development of occupational safety and health and environmental protection technologies. Through more than sixty years of development, Sinosteel Safety & Environmental Protection Institute has built a vibrant and excellence-seeking professional technical team, with 35 experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council and 12 national work safety experts. It is a specialized and sophisticated enterprise, a science and technology reform demonstration enterprise, a high-tech enterprise, and a technology transfer demonstration institution of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Anchored in tackling key scientific and technological challenges, it is committed to research on common industrial technologies and possesses 6 national and provincial/ministerial-level laboratories and R&D platforms—including the Metallurgical Safety Engineering Technology Research Center, the Metal and Nonmetal Mine Occupational Disease Hazard Analysis and Appraisal Laboratory, the Hubei Provincial Engineering Research Center for Organic Wastewater Treatment, the National Labor Protection Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Wuhan), the Engineering Technology Research Center of the China Coal Mine Pneumoconiosis Prevention and Treatment Foundation, and the Hubei Provincial Non-Coal Mine Engineering Research Center. It has successively obtained more than 600 key safety and environmental protection technology achievements, won more than 260 National Invention Awards and Science and Technology Progress Awards, and obtained more than 150 patent authorizations. Focusing on metallurgical safety, it diagnoses and advises on enterprise work safety and provides comprehensive, full-process systematic solutions. It is among the first batch of national safety evaluation institutions and safety training institutions, and a first-level work safety standardization enterprise review unit. Focusing on green development and the building of a Beautiful China, it is among the first batch of industrial energy conservation and green development evaluation centers of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a technical support unit of the Hubei Provincial Energy Conservation Supervision Center, a top-ranked innovation resource in Hubei Province's development of the resource recycling industry, and a technical support unit in the field of climate change response in Wuhan. It is one of the earliest comprehensive environmental governance service providers in China.
