China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CAMSTG) traces its origins to the Machinery Science Research Institute of the Ministry of Machinery Industry, established in 1956 during the period of New China's construction. In 1999, in accordance with the requirements of the document "Guo Ke Fa Zheng Zi (1999) No. 197", a number of research institutes directly under the former Ministry of Machinery Industry, engaged in basic and common technology research and development, were transferred into the Academy, which was wholly transformed into a central enterprise. In 2003, the Academy became a central science and technology enterprise group supervised by the SASAC. In 2006, it was renamed China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology. In 2017, the Academy underwent a corporate system reform and was renamed China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd.
CAMSTG implements a parent-subsidiary group management system with property rights as the link. The headquarters is positioned as the strategic center, investment center, and management center, while each directly affiliated unit is positioned as a technology center and profit center. As of now, the Group has 16 wholly-owned (or holding) subsidiaries, including Harbin Welding Research Institute Co., Ltd., Shenyang Foundry Research Institute Co., Ltd., Zhengzhou Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd., Wuhan Research Institute of Materials Protection Co., Ltd., China Machinery * Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., Beijing Machinery Industry Automation Research Institute Co., Ltd., Beijing Mechanical and Electrical Research Institute Co., Ltd., China Machinery Huanyu Certification and Inspection Co., Ltd., Jike Development Technology Co., Ltd., China Machinery Productivity Promotion Center, Beijing Jike Guochuang Lightweight Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Branch of China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Branch of China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Haixi (Fujian) Branch of China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Qingdao Branch of China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Co., Ltd., and Gongyan Capital Holding Co., Ltd. It also has 10 functional management departments, including the General Affairs Department, Science and Technology Development Department, Industrial Development Department, Strategic Investment and Operations Department, Human Resources and Cadre Department, Financial Management Department, Discipline Inspection and Supervision Department, Party and Mass Work Department, Industry Development Department, and Audit and Legal Risk Control Division, as well as two directly managed units: the Property Service Center and the Machinery Industry Archives.
