Hunan Jiahui Genetic Specialized Hospital was founded by the team of Academician Xia Jiahui. Since 1972, the team has been the first in China to carry out research on genetic diseases, establish genetic disease diagnosis, prenatal diagnosis, and treatment. Based on clinical experience in preventing the birth of children with severe intellectual disability and disability, it established relevant networks to promote nationwide, achieving the transformation of results (1 National Science Conference Award, 4 First Prizes from the Ministry of Health, 5 Second Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award, the First Prize of the First Yangtze River Scholar Achievement Award from the Ministry of Education, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology), always promoting and leading the development of medical genetics in China.

In 2025, Jiahui is in the process of preparing and renovating its new hospital in Xiangjiang New Area, covering an area of 34 mu, with a medical usable area of 37,000 square meters. It is planned to be built into a technology-innovation and research-oriented hospital integrating clinical and scientific research with medical genetics and reproductive medicine as the main disciplines.
