China Life Insurance (Group) Company is a large state-owned financial and insurance enterprise headquartered in Beijing. It is a Fortune Global 500 company, a China Top 500 Brand, and a vice-ministerial-level entity. [1] The predecessor of the company was the former People's Insurance Company of China, established in 1949. In 1996, it was split into China Life Insurance Co., Ltd. In 1999, it was renamed China Life Insurance Company. In 2003, with the approval of the State Council and the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, the former China Life Insurance Company was restructured and reorganized into China Life Insurance (Group) Company. Its business scope comprehensively covers life insurance, property insurance, pension insurance (enterprise annuity), asset management, alternative investment, overseas business, e-commerce, and many other fields. Through capital operations, it has acquired stakes in a number of banks, securities companies, and other financial and non-financial institutions. China Life Insurance (Group) Company and its subsidiaries constitute the largest state-owned financial and insurance group in China. In 2013, total premium income reached 386.8 billion yuan, the domestic life insurance business market share was 31.6%, and total assets reached 2,407.1 billion yuan, making it one of the largest institutional investors in China's capital market. It has been selected for the Fortune Global 500 for 13 consecutive years, ranking 54th; it has been selected for the World's Top 500 Brands for 7 consecutive years, ranking 237th; and it was selected as one of China's Top 500 Brands by the China Brand Value Research Institute, ranking 15th. [2] Its life insurance company, after being listed simultaneously in New York and Hong Kong in December 2003, returned to the domestic A-share market in January 2007, becoming the "first insurance stock" in the mainland capital market and the world's first insurance company listed in New York, Hong Kong, and Shanghai simultaneously, and has become the world's largest listed life insurance company by market value.
