East China Institute of Computing Technology (No. 32 Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation)

The 32nd Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (also known as East China Institute of Computing Technology), founded in 1958, is a national key research institute specializing in computer technology and product development. It has long been focused on scientific research and development in fields such as basic software, key chips, and computers. It is one of the earliest computer science and technology research institutes in China and serves as the base for computer technology research and development in southern China.

The headquarters of Institute 32 is currently located at No. 418 Guilin Road, Caohejing Economic Development Zone, Shanghai, covering an area of over 20 mu; the Jiading branch is under planning, covering an area of 300 mu, aiming to become an industrial base that integrates military and civilian applications and gathers industry-related value chains. Institute 32 and its affiliated companies currently have nearly 4,000 employees, with over 1,000 at the headquarters.

Since its establishment, through the unremitting efforts of several generations in inheritance and innovation, from arduous entrepreneurship to vigorous development, Institute 32 has gone through a glorious history of more than 50 years. From the "Divine Calculator Institute" to the "Whampoa Military Academy" of Shanghai's IT industry, and from successive technological transformations to tackling major scientific research projects, Institute 32 has achieved remarkable accomplishments. It has successfully developed various renowned medium and large computers for the country, created dozens of 'firsts' in the history of China's computing technology development, and won nearly 500 scientific research achievement awards, including 10 national awards and over 180 ministry-level or provincial (municipal) awards.

With the continuous deepening of reform and opening-up, Institute 32 has kept pace with the times, forged ahead, and persistently explored the path of scientific and technological system reform. It has firmly grasped development trends, pursued independent innovation, seized commanding heights, and entered the main battlefield of economic construction in various forms. In the 1990s, it gave birth to the first listed company in the IT industry — East China Computer; in this century, it fostered an excellent network service company — Huaxun Company. After years of development, adjustment, restructuring, and reorganization, these companies are now marching forward on the path toward modern enterprise development with higher goals.
