Chongqing Cancer Hospital

Chongqing Cancer Hospital is located in Shapingba District, the cultural center of Chongqing. It is the only cancer prevention and treatment research institute in the western region approved by the National Science Commission, and also a national Grade 3A cancer specialty hospital in Chongqing integrating clinical practice, scientific research, teaching, and prevention, a Baby-Friendly Hospital, and one of the first designated medical insurance hospitals.



The hospital was founded in 1943. At that time, due to the malaria epidemic in the Ciqikou area of Shapingba, the Central Health Laboratory created the Shaci Health Experimental Teaching Area and built the Shaci Branch of Chongqing Central Hospital at No. 6 Hengjie, Shapingba. In 1954, the hospital moved to No. 181 Hanyu Road, Shapingba District, which is the current location of the cancer hospital.



During its sixty years of development, the hospital has been renamed several times: in 1953 it was renamed Chongqing Eighth People's Hospital; in 1954 it was renamed Chongqing Second Workers' Hospital; in 1984, due to the needs of cancer prevention and treatment work, with the approval of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, it was renamed Chongqing Cancer Research Institute and Chongqing Cancer Hospital.



The hospital currently covers an area of more than 50,000 square meters, with fixed assets exceeding 100 million yuan, 450 authorized beds, and 539 employees, of whom 85% are professional and technical personnel. It has a complete range of disciplines, with 26 clinical and medical technology departments, and has gradually formed a group of advantageous disciplines with strong comprehensive capabilities, including the radiotherapy department, gynecological oncology department, breast center, hepatobiliary department, abdominal surgery department, and pathology department clinical laboratory center. It possesses large advanced medical equipment such as MRI, whole-body CT, ECT, linear accelerator, cobalt-60 treatment machine, remote-controlled afterloading treatment machine, remote-controlled X-ray diagnostic machine, and color Doppler, providing reliable technical support for the examination and treatment of cancer patients. It is one of the cancer prevention and treatment bases in the western region with excellent technology, advanced equipment, and complete functions. It is also currently the only cancer diagnosis and treatment center with strong capabilities in Chongqing, treating more than 6,000 cancer patients each year from the entire city and southeastern Sichuan, and undertaking cancer prevention and treatment work for 32 million people in Chongqing.



Guided by a spirit of dedication, supported by exquisite technology, backed by advanced equipment, and based on strong capabilities, the hospital is committed to in-depth exploration of cancer diseases, with particular emphasis on early diagnosis and early treatment of tumors. For tumors at various sites and stages, it fully utilizes surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, interventional therapy, and biological therapy in accordance with international standards to formulate comprehensive treatment plans. For the diagnosis and treatment of some tumors, a chief physician responsibility system is implemented. It has achieved good results in controlling recurrence and metastasis of malignant tumors such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, lymphoma, and lung cancer at various stages, significantly increasing their cure rates and improving patients' quality of life, and enjoys a high reputation in Chongqing and the western region.



The hospital has strong scientific research capabilities and a complete talent team. Oncology is one of the first batch of key medical disciplines in Chongqing, and the oncology laboratory is a key laboratory in Chongqing. The newly developed vocal reconstruction surgery for laryngeal cancer patients has filled a gap in the city. The clinical research on the PC III kit and breast-conserving treatment for breast cancer patients is at the leading level, and it was the first in the western region to carry out advanced radiotherapy technologies such as conformal intensity-modulated radiotherapy and CT simulation positioning. In recent years, it has won dozens of provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological achievement awards. There are 10 well-known experts in the oncology field in Chongqing who enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, and more than 200 professional and technical personnel with senior and intermediate titles, forming a cross-century medical talent team.
