Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF Co., Ltd. is a large petrochemical enterprise jointly established by Sinopec and BASF of Germany with a 50:50 shareholding ratio, with a total investment of approximately USD 2.9 billion and covering an area of 220 hectares. The company is located in the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park.
The company was established in December 2000 and commenced commercial operations in June 2005, currently employing over 1,900 people. It has been selected as a “Top Employer in Nanjing” and an “Outstanding Contributor to Investment in Jiangsu”.
In September 2009, the company launched the second-phase project to expand the integrated petrochemical base, with a total investment of approximately USD 1.4 billion, and it commenced commercial operations in January 2012.
Recently, the company has strengthened its acrylic acid value chain by adding an acrylic acid unit and a butyl acrylate unit, and together with the newly built superabsorbent polymer plant, all three units were put into production in 2014. In addition, Sinopec and BASF are considering further expanding Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF Co., Ltd. by revamping the existing ethylene oxide unit and building a new neopentyl glycol unit.
