Wuhan Fourth Hospital

Wuhan Fourth Hospital was founded in 1864 by British medical doctor F. PORTER SMITH, pioneering the introduction of Western medicine to Wuhan and being the first Western medicine hospital in Hubei region. It is a national Grade III Level A general hospital. It is the best civilized unit in Hubei Province and a civilized brand hospital in Wuhan.
The hospital currently has three campuses: Wusheng Road Campus, Gutian Campus, and Changqing Campus, as well as Changqing Garden Community Health Service Center. The hospital has fully equipped and functionally complete outpatient buildings, inpatient buildings, and operating rooms, with 48 clinical and medical technology departments and 2,688 open beds. It introduced the first orthopedic surgery robot in Central China and completed the first orthopedic robot surgery in Hubei. It possesses advanced medical equipment such as Canon 320-slice and GE 256-slice ultra-high-end CT, orthopedic 3D digital printer, linear accelerator, digital subtraction angiography (DSA), digital integrated operating room, and 3.0T nuclear magnetic resonance instrument.
The hospital currently has more than 710 talents with master's degree or above, 275 professional and technical personnel with senior titles, 5 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 2 experts with Hubei Provincial Government allowances, 2 experts with outstanding contributions in Hubei Province, 1 top public health talent in Hubei Province, 6 experts with outstanding contributions in Wuhan, 7 "Huanghe Yingcai" experts (including 6 medical and health special talents and 1 outstanding young talent), 13 experts with special allowances from Wuhan Municipal Government, and 5 experts in Wuhan's "Ten Hundred Thousand Talent Project".
It is a master's and doctoral teaching site for Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, Jianghan University, Hubei University of Medicine, and Wuhan Sports University. It undertakes clinical teaching tasks for multiple institutions including Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University School of Medicine, Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, and Jianghan University School of Medicine. It is the first Sino-American general practice physician training base in China.
The hospital has distinctive disciplinary characteristics. As early as 1973, orthopedic expert Zhou Biguang completed the world's first replantation surgery of severed limb translocation under rural conditions. It has formed a discipline construction layout of "large specialties and strong comprehensive" led by orthopedics, cardiovascular medicine, and pain management. Orthopedics is a national key clinical specialty construction project, with more than ten sub-specialties, 18 wards, and nearly 800 beds. Its scale and strength rank first in Central China, and it is praised by the media as "every bone in the human body has an expert". It has made pioneering breakthroughs in new technologies and businesses such as 3D digital printing and surgical navigation robots.
The hospital has 17 Hubei Provincial key clinical specialties including orthopedics, cardiovascular medicine, and pain management, as well as 33 Wuhan Municipal key clinical (construction) specialties. It has been designated by Wuhan Municipal Health Commission as three specialty diagnosis and treatment centers—Trauma Diagnosis and Treatment Center, Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and Wuhan Regional Oncology Specialty Diagnosis and Treatment Center; one special disease diagnosis and treatment center—Pain Diagnosis and Treatment Center. It established Wuhan Ankle Joint Disease Clinical Medical Research Center and Wuhan Pain Clinical Medical Research Center. The oncology department is the location of the office of Wuhan Municipal Cancer Management (Prevention and Treatment) Center.
