The 7th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, founded in 1959, is the communication overall research unit of the group. In 2010, the Chongqing Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo applied cutting-edge technologies independently developed by the 7th Institute, such as digital image processing and LED display control, and related technologies won the 2010 Invention Silver Award from the China Invention Association. The Guangzhou 800M shared network constructed by the 7th Institute served the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games, Asian Para Games, and the Guangzhou municipal government's emergency communication support, successfully completing the guarantee tasks for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games.
Currently, the main research directions of the 7th Institute include new-generation wireless channel transmission technology, access and switching technology, software-defined radio technology, intelligent spectrum management technology, and comprehensive integration technology.
