萍乡市中医院创建于1956年，“文革”期间撤并到市人民医院，1979年复建，经过几代人的努力，1996年评为三级乙等中医医院、***示范中医院、2004年获江西省群众满意医院。2009年被评为江西省三级甲等中医医院，2011年评为江西省特色中医医院，现在医院在职职工587人，其中卫生技术人员495人，占医院职工总数的71%；注册执业医师181人，其中中医类110人，占62%，有主任中医师12人，主任医师1人，主任中药师1人，副主任中医师19人，副主任医师8人，副主任护师3人，副主任药师2人，副主任技师2人，医院占地面积32亩，编制床位400张，现开放床位524张。
