[Summary] The cradle of China's heavy-duty truck industry
China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Sinotruk") traces its origins to the Jinan Automobile Manufacturing General Plant, founded in 1930, and is the cradle of China's heavy-duty truck industry. In 1960, it produced China's first heavy-duty truck—the Yellow River brand JN150 8-ton cargo truck—ending China's inability to manufacture heavy-duty trucks. On May 4 of that year, Chairman Mao Zedong inspected Jinan, viewed the prototype, and spoke highly of it. On January 11, 1966, Chairman Zhu De personally inscribed the two characters "黄河" (Yellow River) for the brand. During the early period of socialist construction, "Yellow River" trucks enjoyed nationwide fame, making significant contributions to the national economy and development, and became a symbolic achievement of the Chinese nation's self-reliance and hard work. In 1983, with the personal attention of Comrade Deng Xiaoping, Sinotruk successfully introduced the Austrian Steyr heavy-duty truck project, becoming the first enterprise in China to fully introduce foreign heavy-duty truck manufacturing technology. "Steyr" once became a synonym for heavy-duty trucks in China.
In 2007, Sinotruk successfully achieved a red-chip listing on the Main Board in Hong Kong, becoming the first red-chip stock listed in China's manufacturing industry and initially establishing a platform for international development. In 2004, the new-generation heavy-duty truck model HOWO, independently developed, was born and launched to the market in 2005, achieving annual sales of over 10,000 units in the first year, setting a new record in China's heavy-duty truck history at that time. In 2013, the SITRAK series products with independent intellectual property rights were officially launched, leading the development of China's heavy-duty truck industry. In 2020, Sinotruk launched the new-generation high-end national brand "Yellow River" heavy-duty truck globally, leading China's heavy-duty trucks to the world stage.
Sinotruk mainly researches, develops, produces, and sells various cargo trucks, special vehicles, special-purpose vehicles, and assemblies such as engines, transmissions, axles, and other automotive parts. It owns all-series commercial vehicle brands including Yellow River, SITRAK, and HOWO, and is one of the most complete heavy-duty truck enterprises in China in terms of drive forms and power coverage. It has three listed subsidiaries: Sinotruk (Hong Kong) Limited (Hong Kong red-chip company), Sinotruk Jinan Truck Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen A-share listed company), and Zhongtong Bus Holding Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen A-share listed company). Products are exported to more than 110 countries and regions, accounting for half of China's heavy-duty truck exports.
