Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences

Founded in 1956, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences is China's national center for medical science and a comprehensive institution for medical research. It operates as an integrated entity with Peking Union Medical College, serving as China's highest medical research and education institution. Currently, the Academy has developed into a comprehensive medical research institution integrating medical education, research, production, and prevention, with 23 research institutes (academies and bases), 6 affiliated hospitals, 7 schools, and 3 off-campus R&D institutions. On October 28, 2016, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, sent a congratulatory letter to the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences on its 60th anniversary, extending sincere greetings to the vast number of scientific and technological workers and cadres in China's healthcare system. The letter expressed the hope that the Academy would take the 60th anniversary as a new starting point, seize opportunities, overcome difficulties, and strive to build itself into the core base of China's medical science and technology innovation system, continuing to write new chapters. The Academy and its affiliated research institutes currently have 24 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 39 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars recipients, 20 individuals selected for the National "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" as leading talents, 852 doctoral supervisors, and 1093 master's supervisors.
